Matt Medrano is a
L.A. native born of full Mexican descent to parents who are both successful in
the medical field. After living his first four years in L.A., Matt's parents
moved him and his older brother to Thousand Oaks for safer schools and a better
education. Growing up in Thousand Oaks Matt was consumed with skateboarding and
going to the beach and surfing. Never really able to do well in school, Matt
spent most his time in class using his imagination drawing and creating things.
From this, his artistic abilities transpired.
Matt's life took a
huge turn at 15 when he lost his brother. Matt then realized at a young age what
was important to him in life, what was invaluable and gave his life a sense of
purpose. It wasn't until college Matt got the urge to start acting. Mostly, he
needed an outlet for his creativity and his deep need to communicate from
within. Growing up he was a movie buff, watching movies over and over again till
he had them completely memorized and had a love for storytelling, but had never
thought of pursuing it when he was a kid. At the time Matt was studying business
at San Diego State when he decided to drop out and move back to L.A. to pursue
acting.
Within his first
year he was able to land an episode on CBS soap opera "The Bold & The Beautiful"
playing the character "Jimmy" following with a world wide Coca Cola commercial.
Performing in numerous plays in the years to follow, it wasn't until Matt met
and started training with Stephanie Feury (daughter of legendary acting teachers
Peggy Feury and William Traylor) that he became serious about honing his craft,
art and talent as an actor. Matt then started to land some leads in a few small
independent films that were released at Blockbuster. Then going on to landing a
lead role in the film "The Genius Club" opposite Stephen Baldwin, Tricia Helfer
and Tom Sizemore, which had a small domestic theatrical release and has gone on
to be a big success in the theatres internationally in Mexico and all over
Europe. Matt has recently finished the lead role in the feature film "The Last
Score" which is still in post-production and also a supporting role in the
feature film "Broken Angel" which has been released internationally by Warner
Bros. and is waiting upon a domestic release. Future projects Matt has coming up
is a lead role in a feature film called "Tar Beach" which is being produced and
co-written by John Leguizamo. Matt has also teamed up with close friend Kent
Harper (writer, producer & actor) of 2008 Cannes hit "Surveillance" (directed by
Jennifer Lynch) to produce and act in a couple upcoming feature films that
are creative, entertaining and message driven. When Matt is not acting he spends
his time
surfing, painting, hiking, writing poetry, cooking, exercising, studying
spiritual philosophies and traveling.
